I am so excited to have stumbled across this resource!! ♡♡♡♡ I am going to spread the news through my social networks and on my campus.☆☆☆ This curriculum is not only great for educators in a formal setting, but also home schoolers, tutors, parent volunteers, and parents who are looking for a comprehensive and easy to implement resource. This is my new small group phonics go-to resource this year! You ensured that all areas of literacy development were covered in a fun hands-on multi-sensory progression of skills. I am a seasoned veteran with 13+ years instructing ESL Early childhood students and I have never encountered a curriculum like yours. The fact that you choose to share these amazing resources FREE OF CHARGE is also mind blowing.

  • Use to practice spelling: Child fishes for a card and then spells the word they catch.Wow, I am sooooo blown away by the sheer amount of activities, variety, depth and complexity that went into creating the sequence for this curriculum.
  • Place a paper clip on each card and use fishing rod with a magnet at the end to fish for the cards.
  • Print, cut out and laminate the cards.
  • The youngest player asks the person on their right if they have a card (that they have in their hand) and if they do, they hand it over, if they don’t they say fish and the asking player picks up a card from the pile. If you have two the same, place them in a pile. Using two copies of these cards, place the all face down in a pile. Continue till you have all matching pairs.
  • These cards can also be used in a memory game.
  • Pick up the top card and see if you can catch the same sight word. Use one copy of each word as ‘fish’ and put the others in a pile that is placed face down. We attached a paper clip to each of the sight words so the boys could catch them. We glued some wool around one end of the dowel rods for the handle and then we glued a different coloured wool around the other end, but kept a length on the end to which we glued a magnet. Our boys love fishing and have gone through a lot of the little plastic fishing rods that you can purchase from Kmart.Īfter finding some dowel rods, we decided to make our own fishing rods and fish. They are difficult for children to sound out, making it easier to teach children to identify them through recognition and repetition.

These words including as talk, come, once and the, are known as non-phonetic or tricky words. Not all of the sight words follow the standard phonetic spelling patterns either. This will enable them to read fluently and independently. Due to their high appearance, children need to be able to recognise, and understand them as soon as they read them. They don’t often have an image that can be used to picture them.
